This year’s Founder’s Day celebration was
ramped up by spreading it out over a whole
month rather than a single day. For example,
each week of the month we invited students
to earn points for their Houses by answering
interesting quiz-questions about ACS. Not
only was this great fun, especially for the
young ones, but the students went away
with a greater appreciation of their school’s
history and heritage.
The Primary School also conducted a
Founder’s Day sports challenge. Over
two weeks, each snack and lunch time
saw heated contests between houses in basketball, handball, football and other
games. It was a great blending of House
spirit and Founder’s Day pride.
On the last day, the entire school flocked to
the new MPH and used our bodies to form
“ACS 130” on the gym floor to mark this
milestone year. Our Boys’ Brigade made it
extra special as this was the first time for them
to make an appearance at the celebrations
by marching in the school flag to begin the
proceedings.
Last but not least, about 120 Old Boys
(including teachers, parents and students)
gathered at the Jakarta Shangri-La for our
annual dinner. Mr and Mrs Campbell,
former Hall Masters at Oldham Hall, were
flown in for the occasion. Many of the
dinner guests who were former boarders at
Oldham Hall were so pleased to see the
Campbells, who are soon retiring to return
to the UK. Also specially flown in was Huron
Low – ACS (Independent) class of 2004
and ACJC class of 2006 – who provided
great entertainment with his street magic.
As Huron moved from table to table, he
left mesmerized groups of baffled people
in his wake.
As our Founder’s Day Dinner looks forward
to its fifth edition next year, we are calling
out for more Jakarta-based ACSians to come
by and join our ever-growing ranks! |
