The ACJC family marked ACS 130th Founder’s Day on 1 March
with a Thanksgiving Service and Award Presentation Ceremony.
Staff, students, alumni, retired principals and teachers, parents
and guests remembered Bishop William Oldham’s pioneering
vision of humble service that has guided ACS since 1886.
ACJC Principal, Ms Beatrice Chong, eschewed the traditional
school report on achievements and accolades. Instead, her address
focused on how Bishop Oldham’s vision is very much a part of
ACJC’s DNA – we are called for the service of God and Nation
– and like biological DNA, this spirit of humble service continues
to be passed on from generation to generation of ACSians.
Ms Chong highlighted how students and alumni of ACJC have
served the college, the community, the nation and the world,
distinguishing themselves as trail-blazers and change-makers
in diverse fields such as medicine, technology, and even the
rehabilitation of child soldiers in war-torn parts of Africa. This
was echoed by the Guest-of-Honour, Rev Dr Gordon Wong,
President of Trinity Annual Conference, The Methodist Church in
Singapore, who said in his Founder’s Day message that serving
one another in love gives our lives meaning, and gives us a good
reason to wake up in the morning.
We also marked the culmination of SG50 ACtS during the
service with a video montage featuring the fifty acts of service
carried out by the ACS family of schools over the past year in
celebration of SG50. Following this, awards were presented to
the Class of 2014 for their sterling performance in the 2014 A
Level Examinations, and to the Class of 2016 for their excellent
results in the 2015 Promotional Examinations.

hope, work and play, The Best Is Yet To Be.”
