Old Boys having a ball of a time at the
Past vs Present 2010 Games!
Once again, the Old Boys retained the Ang Peng Tiam Challenge Trophy in this year’s ACS OBA Part vs Present Games held on 28 February! They were victorious in Badminton, Football, Squash, Tennis and Water Polo, but conceded the Rugby title to the Present boys which were represented by the ‘A’ Division teams from ACJC and ACS (Independent).
This is the second successive year that the Present boys have triumphed over the Past in Rugby. Whilst congratulating the Present team, Cheo Chai Hong (Rugby/Past/Organiser) called on the Old Boys to train harder to prevent the Present from claiming their ‘hat-trick’ in next year’s Games.
Competition brings out the best in us. For many, however, it is also the stark reality that it is not as easy as seen on TV. Said Lim Eik Pin (Squash/Past), “Although the most senior on the squash team makes me feel young again, my body is unfortunately not… a great workout nonetheless.” Eik Pin did sneak in a suggestion that the Organisers consider a handicap system for older Past players. We wonder how that would go down with the Present boys…
Football saw at least 40 Old Boys showing up in force, new team jerseys and all, to do battle on the field with the Present teams from ACS [Independent], ACS [Barker Road] and ACJC. Cohorts from 1970’s through 1990’s were represented. Rayson Seow (Football/Past), remarked, “Great fun connecting with the Present boys who were awed by the loyalty and commitment of all to the Badge. Besides just playing, the Present boys also connected with their OneACS siblings.” Profound words from a wise one, who managed this despite still panting to catch his breath.
The same camaraderie was evident over at the gymnasium. Javier Seah (Badminton/Present-ACS [Independent]) noted, “it was a great experience for me... a great tradition to uphold!" Echoing Javier’s sentiments was Samuel Sim (Badminton/Past/Teacher-in-charge) who said, "The turnout was great! Even though some of the oldies did not play, they turned up to support the event and to also reminisce the ‘days of yore’. We hope to see more and younger Old Boys in future.”
The ACSOBA extends our sincere appreciation to Dr Ong Teck Chin, Mr Chan Chee Wei and Mr Lawrence Ang for ACS [Independent]’s hospitality and logistical support in hosting the Games. Drinks for this event were kindly sponsored by Malaysian Dairy Industries. Our thanks also to Mark Ng (ACJC HoD), Tan Seck Heong (ACS [Barker Road] HoD), Samuel Sim/Faris Mawardi/Colin Chen/Lo Yew Seng (Badminton), Rajendra Krishnan (Football), Woon Kee Yang (Rugby), Adrian Low (Squash), Roberta Ng (Tennis), Ho Yee Cheong/Lau Kum Weng/Jerome Lau (Water Polo) and to everyone who participated or helped out.
Overall, a fun and meaningful afternoon. See you next year on 27 February 2011!
