Parent volunteers are indeed the school’s most faithful
partners. The reasons why they volunteer may vary. We asked
one parent for his thoughts and experiences and below is
what he shared with us.
"When my son
started Year 1 in 2008, I realised that there was no
Fathers’ Prayer Group (FPG) but only the Parents’ Prayer
Group which I am thankful for. Since I felt called to
pray with other fathers, I approached Dr Ong to start a
Fathers’ Prayer Group. Dr Ong was very supportive of the
idea and even allowed us to use the spacious Staff
Lounge for our prayer meeting! Our first FPG started in
August 2008 with 7 fathers and has since grown to as
almost 20.
Our
heart for the FPG is to intercede for not just our sons
and daughters but also for Dr Ong and the staff of the
school so that together we may bring honour to God who
first established ACS. In such challenging times as
these, we need to ask God for his wisdom and divine
providence. As E.M. Bounds, the 19th century American
Methodist minister and mighty prayer warrior said,
“Prayer honours God, acknowledges His being, exalts His
power, adores His providence, secures His aid.” My heart
is that our FPG will draw fathers to come to pray for
their children and the school."
