PARENT VOLUNTEERS

Parent Volunteers - Our Schools' Most Faithful Partners

Throughout the years, ACS has been blessed by parent volunteers who contribute so much of their time, energy and resources to many of the school’s programmes that take learning beyond the classroom

The ACJC Parents’ Action Team (PAT) is an integral part of ACJC and its contributions to many of our school activities are very appreciated by both staff and students alike.

We spoke to Angelina Ang (PAT Chairperson) and several PAT members Yeo Seng Chong ,Yeo Mee Hwa, Jimmy Tan, Angelyn Tan, Cecil Lee, Dilys Lee, and Selina Lee and here is what they shared with us.

What are the school activities that the PAT is actively involved in?

The PAT is involved in providing food and prayer support to ACJC especially during the sports season and CCA events.

During the period leading up to the A Level exams, our Exam Food Ministry feeds close to 200 students daily who stay late in school to study for the exams. Many parents also contribute to the Teachers’ Day lunch to show our appreciation to the teachers for their care and concern for our children.

Parents in the PAT can volunteer for the Parent Mentor Programme for Foreign Scholars as well, to provide them with a surrogate family here in Singapore and to help them adapt to life here better. We
also set up a stall during the biennial Fun-O-Rama to sell food for ACJC’s fund-raising efforts.

Parent Volunteers celebrating Teachers' DayWhat motivates you and others like you to serve and give so much of your time, money and effort in the PAT?

Seng Chong & Mee Hwa: It comes from a sense of gratitude. We want to show our appreciation to the Principal, teachers and staff of the school whom we have been blessed with.

‘Love as you have been loved, serve as you have been served’
…. we want to put that into action.

Selina Lee: Giving a little in return of what I have received.

Jimmy & Angelyn Tan: Paying it forward, gratitude towards God for putting our son in this wonderful school and an appreciation towards the school and all it represents in educating our children academically, physically, emotional and spiritually, and to give support to other like-minded parents in their efforts to contribute to the PAT.

Cecil and Dilys Lee: Our personal motivation is the opportunity to express the love of God to the student body in some tangible way, our gratitude and appreciation to the Principal and teachers of the school for their hard work in looking after the students, and our support for the students, including our own children.

Angelina Ang: I’m grateful that my children have this God given opportunity to be students in ACJC. I
would like all students to have a very memorable ACJC experience - one that they will always cherish as one of the best times in their lives. As we have been blessed, serving in the PAT is a way in which we can share our blessings, love and serve others in return. ACJC is appreciative of our support and welcomes the partnership of parents in providing an all round education. We are glad to have this opportunity to give our support and cheer the school on to greater heights.

What do you find most fulfilling about being part of the PAT?

Parent Volunteers celebrating Youth Day.Seng Chong and Mee Hwa: It has been fulfilling especially being in the parent mentor programme. We have had the great pleasure of meeting some very fine young men and women and sharing in their lives here in Singapore, away from their own families. We hope and pray that by giving them our time, effort and support, we will have been able to make a little difference in their lives.

Selina Lee: As a parent mentor, it is most fulfilling when you hear your mentee calling you “Ma”. It is so heart warming and just this word itself gives so much meaning.

Jimmy and Angelyn Tan: That in little ways like praying for the school, cooking, showing concern for our mentees - it counts and adds up to the greater picture of building the student body.

Cecil and Dilys Lee: It is most fulfilling being able to contribute in some small way to the needs of the College and the student body, and knowing that your efforts are being appreciated by the Principal, teachers and students.

Angelina Ang: What’s most fulfilling is to know that we have touched lives and made a difference with our love and support; to see how God answers our prayers and enables parents to give of themselves to the work of the PAT; to know that role of the PAT through our prayers, love and support is appreciated by the Principal, teachers and students.

What does PAT mean to you?

Seng Chong and Mee Hwa: LOVE in Action.

Selina Lee: A Channel of Blessing Others.

Jimmy and Angelyn Tan: Serving God through the school community.

Cecil and Dilys Lee: The expression of God’s love in action.

Angelina Ang: Touching lives, making a difference through God’s enabling.
