ACS (Independent)'s Harvest of Medals

34 ACS (Independent) students and alumni were part of Team Singapore. They took part in 14 sports and collectively bagged 46 medals (25 Golds, 13 Silvers & 8 Bronzes).

Combined with the rest of the schools in the family, we reckon the ACS family’s contribution to Singapore’s medal tally was 69, of which 32 were Golds.

Congratulations to all the medal winners, in particular alumni members Joseph Schooling (9 Golds) and Quah Zheng Wen (7 Golds, 4 Silvers and 1 Bronze) for their exceptional performance and those who achieved personal bests and set new Games/National records. You have all done the ACS family proud!

Independent’s current students proudly contributed to Singapore’s medal tally, with Janine Khoo (Equestrian Gold), Rachel Tseng (4x200m Freestyle Gold), James Koh (Sailing Silver), Matthew Scott (Sailing Silver) and Jonathan Chan (Diving Bronze).

Apart from the haul by Joseph Schooling and Quah Zheng Wen, other alumni members in Singapore’s swim team were podium finishers, with Lionel Khoo (a Gold and a Silver), and Yeo Kai Guan (2 Golds).

Water Polo’s representatives, Sean Ang, Chiam Kunyang, Lin Diyang and Bryan Ong, together with their teammates, were magnificent once again with their 26th consecutive Gold.

Other medals came from Athletics (Silver), Badminton (Bronze), Canoeing (2 Golds, 1 Silver), Golf (Silver), Rugby (Bronze), Sailing (1Gold, 1 Silver), Softball (Bronze) and Squash (2 Silvers, 2 Bronze),

Rachel TsengI believe that The Best is Yet to Be!

I was a member of the 4 x 200m Freestyle relay team which won a Gold medal for Singapore.

We knew it would be a tough fight with the Thais and true enough they were in the lead as I jumped in. All I could think about then was to swim as fast as I could to narrow the difference between my split swim and theirs.

When my team mate, Ting Wen, jumped in for the anchor leg, I prayed that she would be able to catch up. It was absolutely inspiring watching her fight so hard and making a comeback to clinch the Gold.

Medals aside, through swimming, we learn to be more resilient and to persevere in the face of obstacles. Through successes, setbacks and sportsmanship, we become not only better athletes but also better persons.

A huge thank you to my school, teachers, classmates, friends, coaches, my parents and everyone who prayed for me. My success at the SEA Games would not have been possible without your support.

Last but certainly not the least, I thank God for His grace. For all that I have achieved, to God be the Glory! I hope and believe that the Best is Yet to Be.
