Without
any doubt, the recent inaugural Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic
Games (YOG) was a huge success, given the short lead time to
organise a mega international event of such scale. Kudos to
Singapore for the superb planning and execution of the event!
And kudos also to the ACS family of schools for its multifarious
involvement in the YOG from participation in the Olympic Torch
Relay, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and at the sports
competition itself, to dance performances and contributions of
art pieces for the Singapore 2010 Friendship Fabric and the
Olympic Walk.
My role as a
hockey ball picker at the YOG is an experience I will never
forget. During the month long event, I made many friends
from all over the world, developed much awe and respect for
the dedication and team spirit of the participants and
learnt more about the game of hockey, so much so that I have
now started to play hockey myself!

Being an Olympic torchbearer is
indeed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I will never
forget it. I have learnt lots of values during this
experience, like the importance of friendship and respect.

Volunteering in the YOG made me feel
honoured to represent my school and my country. It also
brought me joy to be able to stand next to Olympian archers
from around the world.

"I am proud to
be part of history as one of the 20,000 volunteers for the
inaugural YOG. Whilst helping with the setting up of lights
and serving drinks at the Modern Pentathlon event, I had the opportunity
to meet the young Olympians face to face and got to know
them better. What impressed me were the values of
competition and the drive of the athletes to be the best
while retaining a sense of sportsmanship and respect.

event.

My role as a torchbearer was a
memorable experience. It has given me great motivation
and strength to move forward and I hope to represent not
just my school, but at the national level, in the near
future.
