Reflections of ACS
(Int'l) teachers
We asked ACS (International)
teachers to share with us what
motivated them to choose teaching
as their profession and here are some
of the responses.
“Growing up, I had
some bad teachers and
many good ones. Adults
tend to forget their
childhood, how we were
in awe of every-thing
yet insecure
about anything. Good
teachers inspired us to
want to do more, to
become more, to give
more. I want to be that
person who makes a child
realise they can make a
significant difference
to our society.“

“I
became a teacher because
I wanted to
carry on learning.
We are born to learn
and I did not want a
job where every
day is the same. In
teaching, each day is
very different and
exciting. It is one of
those jobs where you get
out what you put in.“

“I teach to partake
in nurturing the young
for their generation and
the next.“

“I
teach because I learn
something new every day,
and every day is
unpredictable. And
seeing students develop
a passion for music
because of my passion
for it is the most
rewarding thing in the
world for me.
I have a friend and
former colleague who is
a drama teacher. At some
point in rehearsals for
each of our annual
music-drama productions,
he would watch a scene,
stop and say to the
students: “That is why I
love being a teacher”. I
often feel the same; I
don’t say it, but the
students know when I’m
having one of those
special moments because
of what they’ve
achieved.“

"The
beautiful thing
about education
is that no one
can take it away
from you"
