For many, the first of September is a day to honour those who
moulded us and tolerated our antics.
As a way to thank and honour these fearless heroes, the Class
of ’90 personally ferried twenty-one retired teachers and spouses
to the ACS OBA Retired Teachers Dinner at the Lee Kong Chian
Auditorium, ACS (Barker Road).
For the retired teachers, this is an occasion to catch up and
renew friendships with fellow teachers from the ACS schools
and to enjoy an evening reminiscing the life they had given in
service of ACS and her students.
With the recent opening of the ONE ACS Heritage Gallery at the
Barker Road Campus, all were in for a treat as the teachers and
alumni walked down memory lane. The ACS OBA Management
Committee Members were on hand to share nuggets of history.
Mr Wee Kim Cheng (Principal ACJS) was highly animated in his
Retired Teachers’ Dinner 2019
explanation of his design of the ACJC crest.
The casual buffet dinner spread at the Lee Kong Chian
Auditorium was a busy affair with the ice cream man having a
steady stream of customers despite the cool evening weather.
Old friends and colleagues caught up and the school photo
booth was packed with groups posing against school backdrops.
Browning’s poem echoed as the crowd slowly trickled into the
dark night
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith “A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!’’
... till we see each other again next Teachers Day.
