CARNIVAL ACS 2

All in the name of publicity ...

A joint effort between parents and students..

Carnival ACS 2A Family A’fair proved to live up to its name. A collaborative project between ACS (Barker Road) and ACS (Primary), this biennial event held on 30 June 2007 was made possible by the dedicated efforts of staff members, teachers, parents and students both past and present. The massive joint effort that saw the setting up of nearly 200 food and games stalls, a gourmet hall featuring a wide variety of food selection sponsored by well-known restaurants and hotels and even a small fine-dining restaurant serving modern French cuisine raised a total sum of $542,600.

While the main objective was to raise funds to provide top quality education for our students, the Carnival also gave our students, teachers and parents the special opportunity to work together for a common cause. Our parents played an instrumental role in the sourcing of invaluable sponsorship. There were also some parents who took time from their busy schedules to lend a hand with the setting-up and actual running of the various class stalls. Our teachers in turn spearheaded the logistics behind their respective class stalls and motivated the students under their charge to give of their best.

We are also blessed with the support of our brother schools such as the participation of students from ACS (Independent) and ACS (International) who came to help with some of the food stalls and at the gourmet hall. The Methodist Schools’ Foundation also organised a stall selling roast beef for the Carnival.

Truly, Carnival ACS 2: A Family A’fair has embodied the true spirit of ONE ACS as we continue to uphold the strong traditions of a holistic ACS education.

Carnival Highlights

“The Carnival was a great way to raise funds with fun activities for adults and children of all ages, and a great time to catch up with friends.”Jonathan Wee, 4B3, ACS (Barker Road) Class of 2006

I could sense the ACS spirit in the dedication of parent-volunteers and parents’ committee, all driven by a common goal, and a love for the school.” – Mrs Kris Chia (Parent of Adian-Scott Veroff Ee Chew, P1G, ACS (Primary), who came up with walking advertisements made up of two sandwich boards)

The Carnival offered a unique opportunity for boys, parents and teachers to work side-by-side for a worthwhile cause. For Sec 4A1, operating the restaurant ‘Le Chateau Blanc’ was their final project together which I was glad to be a part of.Mrs Mavis Sum (Parent of Brian Sum, 4A1, ACS (Barker Road), who helped obtain the sponsorship of cutlery and crockery from the YWCA Fort Canning Lodge)

Everyone gave his all and the satisfaction was awesome. Moments spent with friends, teachers and our Principal surely made this year a special one. What defines the ACSian spirit? Well, the Carnival is the perfect answer. Elton Loh, 5E1, ACS (Barker Road)

Probably the biggest challenge is working with the many parents and teachers to plan for the Carnival. There were many areas to cover, from food to games to entertainment, and sales of coupons. We worked for more than 6 months to get the Carnival going. The end result is we achieved something for the school and in the process of doing that, we got to know each other much better.
Mrs Tina Tay (Parent of Sean Tay, P5C, ACS (Primary), and a member of the Event Secretariat)

Le Chateau Blanc was not a typical Carnival stall as it involved running a full restaurant. We needed to print publicity materials ahead of the Carnival, conceptualise a menu and train kitchen and service staff and take care of logistics. It was a huge team effort in the lead-up to the actual day and coordination was no easy task. However, we persevered together and had grown closer as a class and as a school!Sean Gwee (Head Chef, 4A1, ACS (Barker Road))

The school has changed a lot. The Carnival is a good chance to reminisce the past, walk around, and meet up with old friends.Mr Warren Choo (An Old Boy, Class of 1986, who came with his family)
