On
the cool Saturday afternoon of 30 August, the past, present and future of
ACS met at the sprawling new grounds of ACS (Barker Road). Eleven of us
from the cohort year of 1976, some with family in tow, gathered with
Mrs Lee Gek Kim and her husband, also an
old boy of ACS, to tour the school. We were fortunate to have the
guide-services of ACS teachers, Mr Chan Vee Bun
and Mr Melvin Sim, together with their
two assistants, Jonathan Tan and
Michael Seow, both prefects of the
school.
Our first impression
on stepping into the school was "What happened to the football field? Was
this going to be another concrete jungle?!"
Our
fears were laid to rest when we saw that the buildings of the school were
both aesthetic and functional with many oases of greenery spread
throughout.
We had some
difficulty adjusting to the school that we knew more than 25 years ago but
once we got our orientation right, fond memories of the years gone by just
flooded back. Concrete as it may be, the spirit of the school could be
felt in every nook and corner that we visited. All of us shared the same
pride that we could be a part of the building process of this new
institution and could not be happier with the way the school building
turned out.
