On 27th February 2015, forty-one
ACSians, former teachers of ACS and ACS
(Independent) as well as family members
met to mark the 129th ACS Founder’s Day.
The event was organized by
Sathisvaran Kanavathy (ACJC class
of 2008), assisted by Donovan
Ouyong and Prasad Palanisamy
(both of ACS IB Class of 2009).
Among those present were two
stalwarts of our annual gatherings:
Mano Thevathasan and Balraj
Dhaliwal. Also with us was Shantha
Coomaraswamy from Perth,
Western Australia. Shantha started
the Music Elective Programme in
ACS in the early 1980s.
Suresh John (Class of 1978) read the special
message from Richard Seow, Chairman
of the ACS Board of Governors, thanking
us for taking the time to remember our oldschool and putting together this Founder’s
Day Dinner.
This was the 10th anniversary of the re-union
dinner of the ACS Alumni in Melbourne and it
was all the more timely that we had the ACS
flag “flying” before us to mark this milestone.
Having the school flag in our midst was a
personal wish fulfilled: last year I expressed
how meaningful it would be if we could
have the school flag at our Founder’s Day
dinner celebrations. On one of his visits to
Singapore, Quek Joo Meng (ACS Class
of 1976) liaised with Mrs Aw Meng Yin,
Vice-Principal of ACS (Barker Road) who
generously made a personal gift of the flag
to us.
Our re-union dinner was simple but
meaningful with much time spent on catching
up on memories of our days spent in ACS:
remembering teachers, recalling the pranks
they played, the extra-curricular activities they
engaged in and the lessons learnt.
The evening came to a close with the singing
of the ACS anthem when our eyes were
focused on the flag before us, with its humble
reminder that “The Best Is Yet To Be”.
