Founder's Day Joy in Jakarta! |
The inaugural ACS Founder’s Day Dinner held at the Shangri-la Hotel in Jakarta on 1 March was well attended by eighty-nine members of the ACS family and friends. Initiated by
Steven Haurissa (STB-ACS Class of 2004), the event was supported by a group of Old Boys across the year groups and various ACS units, as well as the Principal
Mr Ng Eng Chin, teachers and staff of ACS (International) Jakarta. Among the invited guests were
Mrs Lenie Cho, current Principal of St Francis Methodist School and former Deputy Principal of ACS (Independent), and
Mr and Mrs Campbell and Mr Wong Wei Li, former House Masters at Oldham Hall.
As at all ACS events, the occasion revived many old ties and triggered new ones. The ACS Spirit was truly evident as all mingled well and got along like old friends over cocktails and dinner.
Midway through the festivities, Agung Halim
(Class of 1979) amazed and amused everyone with an acrostic he wrote based on the name of the school “Anglo-Chinese School” which he sang, together with
Ray Grimaldi (Class of 2010), to the tune of “ACS Forever”. The acrostics (he also wrote another based on the school motto) can be found at
www.acsjakarta.sch.id/ACSacrostics.
The dinner ended at about 10 pm with many still lingering around, regaling each other with tales from days of yore. The amount of food left from the buffet dinner was testimony that there was much more talk and fellowship than eating that evening. The ACS Spirit is alive and very well here in Jakarta. With that and the support from the community, certainly, the Best is Yet to Be.
