Leadership Changes in ACS

Mr. Tan Wah Thong has decided to call it a day after more than 13 years as Chairman of the ACS Board of Governors (ACS BOG). Taking over from him is Mr. Richard Seow, the Chairman of SGX-listed Parkway Holdings Limited.

Mr. Tan has been the driving force behind the impressive growth and progress of the ACS family of schools. During his tenure as Chairman of the ACS BOG, he played an important role in the rebuilding of ACS (Barker Road) and ACS (Primary), the major renovations/rebuilding of ACS (Junior), the expansive upgrading of facilities and curriculum of ACS (Independent) and ACJC, and the establishment of 2 new schools – ACS (International) Singapore and ACS (International) Jakarta. Academic results also improved under Mr. Tan’s leadership and today, with a population of more than 10,000 students and about 800 teachers, ACS takes pride in being one of the most sought after schools in the region.

Mr. Richard Seow is a fourth-generation ACSian and the great-grandson of the late Mr. Seow Poh Leng, the distinguished ACSian who initiated the Seow Poh Leng Medal to the school’s top ‘O’ Level student. Prior to his Parkway appointment, he held key positions with leading financial institutions, including the Citigroup based in Singapore, Goldman Sachs, J. P. Morgan and Security Pacific Bank.

Over at the ACS Old Boys’ Association (ACS OBA), Dr. Ang Peng Tiam has stepped down as President and passed the baton over to Mr. Benson Puah, Chief Executive Officer of The Esplanade Co. Ltd.

Dr. Ang was one of the driving forces behind the One ACS initiative to bring together all the six schools in the ACS family to move forward as ONE entity. Amongst other legacies Dr. Ang leaves behind is the Teachers’ Welfare Fund to look after the financial needs of some of our retired teachers who are now in their twilight years.

Mr. Puah is no stranger to the ACS family, having served in the ACS OBA Management Committee as a committee member. He currently sits on many boards, among them the Chair of the New York-based International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA), a prestigious membership association for leaders in the arts world.

We take this opportunity to thank Mr. Tan and Dr. Ang for their leadership and services to the ACS family and wish them God’s blessings.

And to Mr. Seow and Mr. Puah, a very warm welcome!
