Typical of an ACS reunion, there were loads of fun
and laughter when more than 160 of us from the Class of 68/70 gathered
at The Pines on 27 February 2005 for a grand reunion dinner. The joyous
mood for the evening was aptly set by our MC Alex Chan when he had the
audience roaring with laughter with his opening line: " Hi, I’m Alex
Chan and in case you don’t know, I hid in the swimming pool most of the
        time"!

         We
were privileged to have as our guests, 21 retired teachers and
principals, some of whom we had not seen in 35 years, but still looked
pretty much unchanged by the years. They must have enjoyed themselves as
much as we did as they all stayed on until the very end of the programme!

Our dear retired principal, Mr. Lee Hah Ing, stole
the show that evening with jokes that were too risky to be told in 1968
when he was in office. We are not sure if we were the privileged few who
got to hear them, but we are sure glad he shared them with us.

On a more sober note, Mr Ernest Lau ( the author
of the recently published book "40 Years On") described the products of
ACS as "men and women with an attitude of healthy skepticism, who accept
nothing at face value and question everything". No wonder teaching in
ACS is such a challenging task! Hats off to our teachers for putting up
        with us. |

We were fortunate to have the creative talent of
Alan Toh who crafted a slide show that brought back many memories, and
the professional musical talent of Philip Ding, supported by Dennis Ang,
his lovely wife Su-Lin on bass guitar and Robin Thevathasan. After the
singing got started there was no shortage of volunteers including Mr Wee
Teow Kee, Ronald Au and the F4’s, and the HSC gals of 70’.

Through the generous contributions of the 1968/70
cohorts, a total of $5,750 was raised for the ACS OBA Teachers Welfare
Fund ( plus a 50% match of $2,875 from the Tan Chin Tuan Fund). In
addition, about another $600 was raised through the sale of the book "40
Years On". We also presented a Tang’s Gift Voucher to each of our dear
retired teachers who honoured us with their presence. |

There were several informal get-togethers in 2004
leading up to this first ever-grand Reunion, which turned out to be a
resounding success – thanks to the time and untiring efforts put in by
the organizing committee, which comprised Derek Seah, Dennis Ang, Alex
Chan, William Tay, Andrew Quek, Mimi Somjee, Bernard Lim, Mark Sng, Tan
Li Tong, Ronald Au and Wilson Tan!

When we finally stood up to sing the ACS Anthem,
it seemed that time had slipped away too quickly. But, a ray of hope….
our next big gathering will be in 2008, marking our 40th Year. We’d
        better start planning!!
