With
the Anglo-Chinese Schools recording significant
improvements in the 2002 GCE 'O' and 'A' level results,
there is much to rejoice in this issue of the ACS Echo.
We congratulate our students on their fine performaces.
And full marks to our dedicated teachers for making it
happen.
We are delighted that our schools
have excelled in the sports and literary arenas as well,
reinforcing the ACS tradition of nurturing outstanding,
well-rounded students with the right Christian values.
We are indeed on the right track!
The commemoration of the 117th ACS
Founder's Day was not without the usual excitement, pomp
and splendour. It was a joyous occasion filled with
activities as prominent ACSians graced the celebrations
with inspiring messages on the challenges ahead and
offered valuable advice to our students. Our founder,
Bishop William F. Oldham, would have been extremely
proud to see the school he founded 117 years ago, has
grown from 13 students in the little shop at Amoy Street
to thousands in five splendid institutions today.
As I write this editorial, the world
is fraught with gloom and uncertainties. The road ahead
appears stormy with the deadly SARS (severe acute
respiratory syndrome) outbreak, global economic
woes and the Middle East conflict looming over our
heads. In such turbulent times, ACSians are thankful for
the sound moral and Christian values infused in them
during Chapel. The valuable lessons learnt have not only
enabled them to see and evaluate thngs in their true
perspective, but also prepared them to face daunting
challenges confidently without fear, and with a smile -
just like the little girl in the following anecdote:
A little girl was
walking to school when a violent storm broke
out. Despite the inclement weather, the child
went on her way calmly without any fear. But
whenever lightning struck with a thundering
roar, she would look up to the skies and smile
sweetly. Whe asked why she did that, the child
answered, "I am trying to look pretty, God keeps
taking my picture!" |
May God bless you as you weather the
storm, and don't forget to SMILE!
