The ACS Class of 1959 celebrated its Diamond Anniversary on November 9, 2019. Held at The Tanglin Club, the reunion was yet another joyous celebration of friendships dating back 70 years from Primary One in 1949 for some.
Throughout the evening, the awesome ACS Spirit took those present down memory lane as evidenced by the animated exchanges and laughter over receding hairlines and expanding waistlines. It is indeed incredible that since going their separate ways 60 years ago after completing the O Level exams, members of the cohort are still the best of friends.
According to Lim Kok Lian who flew in from California, USA for the reunion, “Our ACS experience has resulted in the brotherhood of lifelong friends. These are the friends who have contributed to my personal growth, compelling me to return each decade to the class reunions. We have acquired the spirit of “All for one and one for all!”
Another schoolmate who flew in from Melbourne for the reunion was former Olympian Tan Sri Dr M. Jegathesan, who was once the fastest man in Asia. Paying tribute to our beloved teachers, he said, “Everything I am today was engineered and fostered by the ACS brand of education — an excellent mix of culture, values, methods, rewards and recognition. I owe a lot to the wonderful team of teachers who were a great motivating influence on me to excel in my studies and on the sports field”.
The cohort continues to meet every month for lunch and looks forward to its 80th Birthday Bash in 2022 and Blue Sapphire Anniversary in 2024.
