It was an evening filled with nostalgia, memories and reminiscences
as almost a hundred of us from the 0 level class of 1964
gathered at the Singapore Island Club on 19th September
to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of our graduation.
Over
six months went into the tracking of all whose names appeared
in the 1964 Annual School Magazine and invitations were
sent to at least a hundred and fifty from Singapore and all over
the world, from a cohort of eight classes of over three hundred
students.
Classmates flew in from Brisbane, London, Sheffield,
Perth, Hong Kong, Vancouver, Rome, Los Angeles, Sydney, Kota
Kinabalu, and Manchester including apologies from those in
New York and Toronto.
Music was provided by a three-man band with
Danny Koh,
renowned and popular pianist, throughout the evening. Among the
entertainers were Wong Hong Sze (MC), Donald Chia (Inspiration
and Prayer) Chelva Rajah and Kenneth Choo (Reminiscences),
as Lim Kok Eng, Tan Tien Hin and
Wong Ong Cheng performed
with hits of the sixties.
As we reminisced, chatted and caught up with each other we
also paused to remember teachers that have passed on, with a
special tribute to Mr Earnest Lau. A collection for the ACS Retired
Teachers Fund was taken up. The highlight of the evening was the
School Anthem, which we sang with gusto.
We will meet again
in 2017 when many will turn 70.
