In an unprecedented collaboration,
the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has agreed to
perform a Benefit Concert for the Anglo-Chinese School
(Junior)!
To be held on 23 July 2009 in
Victoria Concert Hall at Empress Place, the Concert will
feature the celebrated Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3
to be performed by Ms Pan Yi An accompanied by
the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of
Maestro Lan Shui himself.
While
Maestro Lan Shui and the SSO need no
introduction, it is noteworthy that this is the first
time they have agreed to perform at a school benefit
concert, and where the entire proceeds from the box
office will form the seed fund in the Arts Alive
Initiatives which aim at providing platforms for the
boys to appreciate, learn and perform in the various art
forms through performances/exhibitions, arts exchange
programmes, artist in residence programmes and other
platforms that will encourage creativity and
appreciation of the arts.
Ms Pan (left), herself an
accomplished pianist, has played before President and
Mrs. S.R. Nathan at the Istana and with the SSO at
the President’s Young Performers Concert in 2007. She
also toured with the Orchestra in the USA, France and
Spain at the tender age of 12. Currently a student in
Michigan USA pursuing studies in Piano and Music, her
performance will prove to be an inspiration to all ACS
boys, old or present, and further enhance their love for
music.
Preceding
this performance, the ACS (Junior) String Orchestra will
make its début performance under the direction of their
music conductor, Mr. Mervyn Goh. A graduate of
Eastman School of Music in 1989, Mervyn was endorsed by
Dr. Chosei Komatsu, Central Aichi Symphony & National
Symphony of Costa Rica, with the following comments,
“……. excellent baton technique and natural
leadership………performance direction is expressive,
passionate and clear….……..a dedicated and learned
conductor…….”
All parents and
Old Boys of the school are encouraged to attend and
support the event which is the first of its kind ever.
