When Fathers Pray

Prayer was proclaimed at the Clock Tower!

Almost 30 years after the famed “Clock Tower Revival”, a group of fathers from the Fathers Prayer Groups of the 6 ACS units in Singapore gathered to pray at the new Clock Tower. The occasion was the annual Fathers Prayer Group Retreat, held last year on 8 November at ACS (Barker Road) and attended by about 30 fathers from each of the ACS units.

After the morning worship, Rev Malcolm Tan shared his understanding of the revival that took place in the school back in the early 70s. Most significantly, the result of the move of the Holy Spirit then was that many ACS students eventually became pastors and missionaries. Amongst those serving in the Methodist Church are Rev Melvin Huang, Rev Norman Wong and Rev Tan himself.

Inspired by the testimony, the group decided to revisit the Clock Tower, albeit rebuilt, but still holding spiritual significance. A time of prayer ensued with groups praying in different parts of the Clock Tower. During the lunch that followed, various fathers who were students in other schools then like Raffles Institution, St Joseph’s Institution and others shared that it was good to hear the sharing of the movement of God in ACS at that time. They recounted and recalled how God was also moving in their schools and churches at that time when they were young students, though probably not in the scale that it happened in ACS.

Besides the time of fellowship, this Fathers Prayer Group Retreat will be remembered also for the presence of 2 of the ACS Principals, Dr Ong Teck Chin and Mr Peter Tan. They prayed with, and for the fathers as they carried out their ministries in the various ACS units.

There are now Fathers Prayer Groups in all the ACS units and most meet on Saturdays starting at 7.30 am. If you are interested to be a part of this prayer movement to uphold your son’s school, please contact the following:

A verse that was shared during the prayer time at the Clock Tower was from Isaiah 41: 10, “Fear thou not for I am with thee. Be not dismayed, for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee, yea! I will help thee, yea! I will uphold thee with the right hand of thy righteousness.”

Fathers are to be the head of their households and in ACS, it is most appropriate that fathers take the lead in upholding the school with prayers before God for The Best Is Yet To Be!
