The Class of '53 |
It's Great To Be Back In School! |
Many from the Class of ‘53 will surely remember 08 November 2003 – the day they went back to the alma mater for their 50th reunion dinner at the Thai Home Kitchen by the ACS Barker Road Sports Complex swimming pool. It was indeed a memorable evening of great fun, camaraderie and nostalgia! As it is no easy task organising a class reunion, especially one celebrating its 50th year, full marks to the organizing committee for making the event such a successful and meaningful one. Preparations began as far back as November 2002, and despite the many challenges such as locating old classmates, 47 old boys finally made it to the reunion. Preceding dinner, a tour of the new ACS Barker Road campus kindly organized by the school brought back a flood of memories. At the clock tower, we dwelled a little longer to ponder over our days in school.
The occasion was graced by four of our teachers, Mr Lim Choon Mong, Mr Chee Keng Lim, Mr Lee Hah Ing and Mr Tan Boon Chiang, now in their eighties but still fit and strong. In their speeches, Mr Lee brought his old students down memory lane, Mr Lim in his usual candid mood appeared more like addressing a rally, Mr Tan put forth an arbitration court judgment, whilst Mr Chee, having forgotten his usual standard 3 jokes speech, delivered like a principal the achievements and camaraderie spirit. The evening, which ended with a spirited singing session, was certainly a delightful one for the Class of ’53. Besides having so much fun, those present also got to know each other better, which is better 50 years late than never! |
