Since 2017, Mr Wan Fook Weng and a group of appreciative Old
Boys and Old Girls have been organising regular get-togethers
over sumptuous meals for the retired teachers across all ACS
schools during special occasions such as Chinese New Year,
Easter and Christmas.
When COVID-19 struck, this unwavering commitment to show
care to the community of teachers that nurtured generations of
ACS students inspired Oldham Club members to be involved in
the logistics of carrying out the endeavour to bring the regular
get-together to the retired teachers’ doorsteps.
The response was quick and enthusiastic. The Badminton,
Tennis and Water Polo chapters procured the contents of the
care bag while Athletics, Choir,
Hockey, Rugby, and Scouting
made sure the bags were packed and dispatched. 25 bags
were delivered to Mr Wan, who had assembled his own team
of volunteers to be involved in the pre-Covid meal celebrations,
and another 25 bags delivered by the chapter members and
some well-meaning alumni who are in regular contact with their
old teachers.
The Easter bags were filled with a range of goodies ranging
from instant cereal and drinks to Bak Zhang, and even fresh
seasonal fruit! The bags were personally delivered either
contactless or with a short visit according to safe distancing
measures, based on the comfort level of the retired teachers
that the delivery team contacted.
It is hoped that our retired teachers and school leaders who
served in their youth and gave their energies to taking care
of all of us will continue to be and feel cared for by our ACS
community.
