We were the first batch of ‘independent’ school students when we entered Secondary
One in 1988 and completed our secondary school education at Barker Road before
the campus was relocated to Dover Road in 1992. In those days, we simply declared
ourselves to be students of Anglo-Chinese School, without the suffix (I)! Perhaps this is a
reminder that all the schools in the AC family have a common spiritual root. Nevertheless,
it was significant for us when we finally gathered in what is now known as the ‘old’
auditorium at Dover Road for our 25th year reunion on 4 June 2016.

inspiring
message
|

About 150 of us and our former teachers spent a memorable evening reminiscing and
catching up at the reunion. In his inspiring message, our former Principal, Prof Lawrence
Chia reminded us what ACS stood for:
A-accountability (get feedback from
trusted ones as all of us have blind spots)
C-composites (different materials bond
together to create strength in unity)
S-stewardship (we are stewards of the
resources which have been given to us)
The other highlight of the evening was when our classmate, Pastor Terence Ong, blessed
us with a beautiful prayer which we would like to share with the rest of the AC Family
(see inset). To God be the Glory, The Best is Yet to Be!

“God of the
Heavens and the
Earth,
THE GIFT
OF LIFE
We don’t get
to choose when
or where we were
born… and we
certainly didn’t
get to
choose our
teachers,
discipline
masters or with
whom we would
graduate
secondary
school with.
We are here
by your
appointment. We
are
here by your
Grace. As we
look around us
and look
back, we do so
with gratitude
and thanks for
the wonderful
Gift of our
lives.
THE
JOURNEY OF LIFE
We’ve all
been busy with
this Gift of
life. Writing
our
stories….crafting
our mark on this
earth…working
with the
conditions
you’ve given us.
Some soaring to
the heights of
the heavens,
some plumbing
the depths of
hell, some of us
still wandering
and wondering if
this Gift is a
blessing or a
curse.
But you have
been busy too.
You also have
been at work
.… grafting us
into Your Story.
A Story of our
Redemption. A
Story of Your
Amazing Grace. A
Story that
begins with a
Gift but ends
with you the
Giver of this
incredible Gift
of Life.
You have given
this Gift of
Life only so
that
we can meet
you, know you
and finally be
united with you
as the Giver who
never stops
giving – the
Love that knows
no end.
THE
PRAYER FOR LIFE
Tonight as
we pause in this
journey that is
our life to
remember. As we
look back to
days gone by and
rediscover
friends long
lost. May we
find You in the
exchange of our
stories. May we
discover your
Grace that
permeates our
lives. And above
all,
may we
discover in this
gathering a
Beacon of Truth
and Light, that
would light our
way forward -
not just to
another gift but
to you the Giver
of all good
gifts.
We pray these
things in the
name of Jesus
of Nazareth,
by the same
Spirit that
raised
Him from the
dead, for the
everlasting
glory of our
Father in
Heaven.
Amen.
