Forty-five Years On .......
On 13 November 2015, 83 schoolmates from the ACS Class
70/72 turned up at the home of Tang Weng Fei to celebrate
the cohort’s 45th Anniversary. Organised by Patrick Cheong, this
gathering was by far the largest since the cohort left the alma mater
45 years ago (43 for those who went on to Pre-U).
Although many in the cohort are already in touch with each other
through work, church, alumni and social circles, it was a first time
meeting for some at the reunion. Prints of the class photos in the
ACS Yearbook of 1970 and 1972 were of great help in putting
familiar names to faces then and now. In the true tradition of ACS,
the event was a roaring success.
With the aid of social media and mobile messaging platforms,
it is now so easy to stay in close touch with each other. The
cohort has an active WhatsApp chat group for its members to
share and exchange news and views on a range of topics from
current affairs and sports
to inspirational anecdotes
and even tips on smart
phone usage. With daily
postings often exceeding
100, the chat group is
also used to coordinate
the cohort’s regular get-togethers,
from lunches,
dinners, drinks and live
football matches to even
a karaoke session every
2-3 months, as well as
impromptu lunches which
are almost a weekly
affair. Attendances at
these gatherings vary
between 5 and 20,
depending on who are
able to meet up.
