On Saturday, July 12th, the ACS OBA celebrated its 100th Anniversary at the Barker Road campus. It was a celebration of God’s blessings on ACS and the OBA, and an opportunity to gather and reflect on what ACS means to all of us, and what we can do for ACS.
The evening began with a Thanksgiving Service held in the Barker Road Methodist Church Sanctuary where
Rev. Malcolm Tan led a simple, but very meaningful service which brought back fond memories of ACS chapel services. Familiar hymns like “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and “O God Our Help In Ages Past” were sung. It was exceptionally moving to sing the ACS Anthem, led by
Peter Tan, Principal of ACS (Barker Road), alongside retired teachers, past and present ACS principals, former OBA Management Committee members, and Old Boys and Girls.
Guests adjourned to the Lee Kong Chian Auditorium for a dinner themed along the regions in our ACS Anthem, and entertainment by a young Old Boys group “Mark Yung & Friends”(ACSI 2012), and
FuLL r3ACSians, a father-and -sons trio (Alan Fu ACSS 1981,
Mitchell ACSI 2012, Malcolm ACSI 2014. The emcee,
Chelva Rajah, a past President of the ACS OBA, had the dubious honor of harnessing the ‘raucous enthusiasm’ of the ACSian crowd, but a great time was had by all.
The ACS OBA Management Committee would like to express its gratitude to the ACS Board of Governors,
Rev Malcolm Tan, Pastor-in-charge of Barker Road Methodist Church,
Peter Tan and Arene Koh, principals of ACS (Barker Road) and ACS (Primary) respectively,
Chelva Rajah, Ms Jayanthi of ACS (Barker Road),
Samat and Meilyn Jaimon, and our loyal alumni who came to join us that evening.
