Supporting and Enriching our Children's Lives
ACS (International) PSP
The ACS (International) parent support group calls itself Parent School Partners (PSP) as we see ourselves as partners with the school, its teachers and its students.

ACS (International) PSPWe understand the importance for parents to be a cohesive group in order to provide support for our students and the school. Hence we have regular parent events so parents can come together to interact and mingle. In addition to our well-attended coffee mornings, we have also organised a talk by a clinical psychologist on communicating with teens and a hands-on jam-making session, both of which were very well-received. Our most recent bonding activity was a Gardens by the Bay outing where parents had a wonderful time spending a leisurely morning together.

ACS (International) PSPOne of our students’, and teachers’ favourite role they see PSP in, is to provide food. Be it for our annual Back to School Party, International Day or Study Nights events or for casts and crew of dance, musical or drama performances, they are assured of delicious and delectable fare.

There are a number of school events where parents, teachers and students have the opportunity to work hand-in-hand for. Back to School Party, a major kick-off at the start of each school year, sees parents and the Student Council sitting together at the end of the previous year to start making plans for this event and ACS (International) PSPguided by the teachers in charge. International Day, however, has teachers and parents in the organising committee. Here, students work with teachers to bring about international awareness-raising activities, whilst parents provide sumptuous food from around the world for all to sample. Teachers’ Day lunch/tea is an annual parent-led event. Over the years, we have had lunch or tea with different themes, e.g., Mexican, English tea party and Rock and Roll. Parents have the help of some students who provide entertainment during the event. Cookery Club, a hugely sought-after CCA, has been a parent-driven, parent-taught, activity since its inception when the school started.

ACS (International) PSPCelefest, our very own fundraising event which takes place every two or three years, is one example of cooperation from students, teachers and parents. In Celefest 2012, students were in charge of organising games stalls; parents arranged and sourced for and managed all kinds of stalls selling food, books and household items; parents also helped to organise the Rock Out concert with bands from within and without; teachers guided students, coordinated with parents and spearheaded initiatives which made the event a successful one.

The recent Habitat for Humanity project carried out ACS (International) PSPby our Student Ambassadors and led by teachers, saw parents supporting their media release advertisement with suggestions to help them achieve their goals. PSP also supports the alumni by way of sponsorship of and rendering assistance to the organisation of their events, including the alumni dinner.

A segment of the PSP is Parents Prayer Group (PPG), which began as parents praying together only, but now also prays together with teachers monthly. This has helped foster unity strengthen the relationship between parents and teachers and amongst parents in a shared faith.

Parent support and participation with our students and school build relationship bonds that last beyond the years in school and enriches the lives of all involved today and in the years ahead. We are blessed and privileged to be allowed to contribute to this important period in our children's lives.
