Young ACSians Keep the ACS Spirit alive.... |

... in Melbourne,
Australia |
ACSians ALL! |
On the cool autumn evening of 18 May, a predominantly young generation of ACSians got together at the Arrow-at-Swanston in the city of Melbourne, Australia. The gathering was, in a way, held in lieu of the annual ACS Alumni dinner in Melbourne to celebrate ACS Founder’s Day. This year the annual event did not quite get off the ground in March. However, the absence of the annual dinner had a pleasantly surprising outcome as it brought together a group of young ACSians, mostly undergraduates of the various universities here.
Ably organised by
Felicia Chua and
Eugene Soo
(both from the ACJC Class of 2007), the dinner drew a crowd of 40 ACSians, mostly from the various campuses where Felicia and Eugene had posted information on the dinner event. The evening was also supported by stalwart ACSians like
Tan See Keng (Class of 1979),
Quek Joo Meng (Class of 1976),
Lawrence Dana and Balu Rao (Class of 1970) as well as
Lee Boon Chong (Class of 1961). |
Before the commencement of the
dinner, Felicia conveyed greetings from Cheo Chai Hong, President of the ACS OBA, wishing us “the best for a wonderful gathering”. He said that “it is because of loyal ACSians ..... who take the time and effort to gather that we are able to keep the ACS Spirit alive wherever we are”. The opening address was followed by the screening of a PowerPoint presentation,
Montage of Memories, prepared by Joo Meng.

Dinner was a delicious spread of nasi lemak followed by dessert.
There was much time for interaction among ACSians young and younger who shared fond memories of their years in ACS and ACJC.
Of his 12 years in ACS, Gerald Koh (Class of 2009) remembers with nostalgia “days filled with joy, laughter and most importantly, friends to share it with” and feels “it has truly been a blessing to have spent so much time as part of this huge family”. Gerald felt that ACS gave him “more than just an academic education”. He says the School taught him “many life lessons” that will always remain a part of who he is.
Samuel Lim (Class of 1987) feels that “common factors like principals, teachers, coaches, events ... somehow just bind ACSians together” especially in a gathering such as the one we had. He says he is already “looking forward to the next one!”!”
Samuel could not have said it better for indeed,
now that the ACS Alumni has reached out to our
young ACSians here, we look forward to our next
dinner in March 2013 when we hope to see an even
larger gathering of ACSians of various age
groups to celebrate the 127th birthday of our
alma mater, for surely, “The Best Is Yet To Be”! |

Young ACSians in
London also gathered on 9 March for
dinner at the Singapore Chinese
Restaurant in Holland Park to celebrate
ACS Founder’s Day.
Gracing the
occasion was the Guest-of-Honour,
Mr. Wong Ping Loong, a
former teacher at ACS (Independent).
