Lunches, Reunions, Birthday Bashes & More! |
The
Class of 57 meets for lunch on the first
Friday of each month at the Metropolitan YMCA at
Stevens Road. By coincidence, the Class of 60
also held their July lunch at the same venue and
the two cohorts were seated at adjoining tables.
This was certainly a ‘family’ photo opportunity
not to be missed and this group photo was
immediately taken. |
One happy family,
with members from the Class of 60 standing
behind their seated seniors!
Also present
at the lunch was former ACS teacher and ACJC
Principal Mr Wan Fook Weng
(seated at the far end of the table) who was a
guest of the 1960 cohort. |
Besides the 57 and 60 cohorts, many other cohorts also lunch regularly to stay connected and to keep the ACS Spirit alive. For years, the
Class of 59 has been meeting for lunch on the last Thursday of each month with an average attendance of about 25, while a smaller group of Elvis and Sinatra wannabes from this same cohort have been croaking away at weekly karaoke sessions. Despite dwindling attendance with the passage of time, the
Class of 55 also convenes a monthly lunch.

Last year, the
51,
56 and
81 cohorts celebrated their 60th, 55th and 30th anniversaries respectively. Several Golden Anniversaries were also held during the past few years, the most recent one being the
Class of 61’s which was well attended by nearly 120. And come early October, the ACS Pre-U Science classes of 1962 will also be commemorating their 50th Anniversary (click
here for details). |

Reaching landmark ages is another excuse for ACSians to rejoice. In March this year, the
Class of 68/70 had a ball of a time at their 60th birthday bash; more than 180 (including spouses) turned up for this event which took many down memory lane. Last year, when the 64 cohort turned 64 years of age, the theme chosen for the reunion was appropriately Paul McCartney’s “When I’m 64”; this cohort is already planning for its Golden Anniversary in 2014. And very soon, the 59 cohort will commemorate their septuagenarian status at a do which is currently being planned for.

Age is no barrier when it comes to ACS gatherings. The series of social events initiated by the ACS OBA was more like family reunions as cohorts from as far back as 1957 were seen networking animatedly with younger cohorts from as recent as 2010. The recent
ACS-MGS Social Mixer evening at the trendy Balaclava at ION Orchard was hugely successful. The event was well attended by over 200 ACS old boys and MGS old girls who all had a great time renewing friendships and catching up with each other.
