ACS Old Boys Rally Round To Raise $37,600 For Lee Wei Kong

ACS Old Boys have responded well to the ACS OBA’s call for funds for Lee Wei Kong’s rehabilitation. A total of $37,600 was raised and presented to Wei Kong’s mother, Madam Ho Siew Phin, by Dr Ang Peng Tiam (President of the ACS OBA) recently.

Wei Kong, the former captain of the ACJC Rugby Team and once a national Under-19 player, was an outstanding rugby player. He had a bright future ahead of him until tragedy struck on the morning of 02 January 2005, when he was involved in an accident with a taxi on his way to church. The accident left him with serious head and spinal injuries, which affected his ability to talk and walk. He is currently undergoing special therapy to learn how to walk, use his limbs and talk. Full recovery may take a year or two, but the good news is that he is responding well to treatment and making good progress, albeit slowly.

According to Dr Ang, “When Wei Kong's plight was featured in the newspapers, I received several calls from old boys who felt that ACS OBA should lend a hand in raising funds. We passed the word around and the response was most encouraging. We managed to collect over $37,000 to help with his medical and rehabilitation needs.  On behalf of Wei Kong and his family, I would like to say a BIG thank you!

ACJC has also set up a fund for Wei Kong’s medical and rehabilitation expenses. Friends and members of the ACS family who wish to contribute to this fund can address their cheque to “Anglo-Chinese Junior College” and write “Lee Wei Kong” on the back of the cheque.
